Installing Rebrief on a Windows computer
4 min read
The Windows app is Rebrief installed on a Windows computer. Clinics connect their practice software through it, so the schedule, patients and charts can come into Rebrief. Some buttons call it the Bridge, and the Start menu calls it Rebrief Bridge.
You can set it up yourself. It needs no IT help and no administrator rights.
Before you start
- The Windows app comes with every paid plan. Starter, the free plan, is Rebrief in your web browser. It doesn't connect to practice software.
- You need a Windows 10 or 11 computer, 64-bit.
- Install it on the computer where your practice software runs. The front desk computer works well.
- Check that your practice software is listed in Supported practice-management systems.
Install the Windows app
- On that computer, go to www.rebrief.ai/download and select Download for Windows. In Rebrief, Download the Bridge opens the same page. It's in Settings, under Clinic › Practice software.
- Run the file you downloaded. It's a small file. It checks for the newest version, downloads it and starts the installer.
- The installer shows Installing Rebrief. It takes a few minutes, then Rebrief opens by itself. It installs for your Windows user only, so it needs no administrator rights.
- Read the End-User License Agreement. Scroll to the end and select I Agree.
- Sign in with the same Rebrief account you use in your web browser.
Connect your practice software
- Open your practice software on the same computer. Leave it open on screen. Rebrief finds it on its own.
- In Rebrief, go to Home and select Calendar in the side panel.
- If a card in the bottom-right corner offers Import from and your software's name, select it. You can also select the circular arrows at the right end of the calendar's header.
- Rebrief may work your practice software on screen while it reads the day. Leave the mouse and keyboard alone until it's done.
If the calendar asks you to open your practice software, open it, then select Check again.
Bring the schedule in every day
Nothing comes in on a schedule until you set it up. There are two ways.
- Prep my day is a routine on Home. Before clinic, it brings the day's schedule in, sets up each appointment and writes a short prep for each patient. To run it every morning, open Routines in Home's side panel, select Prep my day, and give it a time and a computer. It has its own article.
- Daily sync only brings the schedule in. In the Windows app, open Settings, then Practice software under Clinic. Under Daily sync, turn on Run the daily sync automatically and pick a time.
How you know it worked
- Today's appointments show in the calendar on Home.
- On the Scribe page, they show under Up next on today's schedule.
- In a web browser, Settings › Practice software says Connected.
- In the Windows app, the round sync mark in the rail has a green dot. It sits just under the + button, New appointment. Point at it to see when the last sync ran.
If something doesn't work
- Rebrief can't find your practice software. The sync mark's dot blinks red. Open your practice software on the same computer and leave it on screen. Rebrief looks again on its own.
- More than one practice software is open. Rebrief won't guess. The card on Home's calendar lists each one with its own Import from button, so you can pick one there. In the Windows app you can also choose under Settings › Practice software › Active software.
- Your practice software isn't supported yet. Rebrief names it and says it doesn't support it yet. Notes and charting keep working.
- Nothing shows up in your web browser. Check that the Windows app is signed in with the same Rebrief account as your browser.
- The Windows app says Bring your schedule, patients and charts into Rebrief. Your clinic is on Starter, which doesn't include the Windows app. Use the window's upgrade button to pick a paid plan, or select Sign out.
For what the sync mark means, see Syncing with your practice software.
Keeping it running
- Leave the Windows app open on that computer. It can only sync while it's open.
- On a new install, it opens by itself when you sign in to Windows.
- It keeps itself up to date, mostly overnight. Updates and notices in the Windows app explains how.
- If your practice software moves to a new computer, install the Windows app there and sign in again.
