Your first week with Rebrief

5 min read

Rebrief writes your clinical notes while you look after your patient. This guide takes you through your first week, one step at a time.

Before your first patient

Home is Rebrief's first screen. It has one prompt bar in the middle, and a list of your chats and appointments on the left.

The rail down the far left takes you everywhere else. It reads Home, Scribe, Tasks, Learn, Patients, Templates and Settings. Your plan decides which of these you see.

Rebrief transcribes the appointment with your computer's mic. Make sure the mic you want to use is plugged in.

Tip: On a computer, Home's Get started list has Take the Rebrief tour. It walks you through the basics.

Day 1: your first appointment

  1. Select New appointment in the panel on the left of Home. You can also select Start an appointment on the Scribe page.
  2. Rebrief starts transcribing. The line under the top bar reads Started with the time, and counts the minutes.
  3. Talk with your patient as you normally would. The note fills in on the Note tab as you go.
  4. Type in the note whenever you like. Rebrief keeps what you type.
  5. When the visit is over, select End.

A computer transcribes one appointment at a time. End one appointment before you start the next.

Your practice software is the program your clinic uses for patients and schedules. If it's connected to Rebrief, the Scribe page also lists the next booked patients. Their Start button links the appointment to the patient when Rebrief is sure of the record.

Day 1: check the note

When you select End, the line under the top bar reads Refining note while Rebrief finishes. Then it reads Note ready.

Read the note before it goes into the chart. Click anywhere in it to fix a word or add a line.

Two checks help you read it:

  • The shield on the note's bar checks for medicolegal details the note is missing. Each one shows as a faded line with Add and Skip. Only add what was done.
  • Sources, such as 12 sources, links sentences to what was said. Click in a sentence, then select Source to see the words.

Day 1: polish your note

Some details a note needs are rarely said aloud, like the anesthetic, the shade or which X-rays were taken. When Rebrief has questions like these, a Polish your note card opens under the prompt bar after End.

  1. Pick an answer, or select Something else and type it.
  2. Select Next. Rebrief writes the answer into the note and highlights it.
  3. Select Skip to leave a question out.

The note's Undo takes back anything the card added. When the questions are done, describe any other change in plain words, and Rebrief makes it.

If Rebrief has nothing to ask, the card doesn't open. To stop it opening at all, turn on Don't open this at End on the card. The same choice is in Settings, under Notes & dictation, as Polish the note in the chat.

Day 1: get the note into your chart

  1. Select Export at the end of the tab row. It works once the appointment has ended.
  2. Select Copy text, then paste the note into your practice software.
  3. Or select PDF on letterhead for a PDF with your clinic's name at the top.

The Windows app is Rebrief installed on a clinic computer. Clinics use it to connect Rebrief to their practice software. In the Windows app, Export can also send the note straight into your practice software.

Days 2 and 3: chart by voice

Rebrief can fill the chart while you talk.

  • Name a tooth and what you see, such as "crown on 14". The tooth chart updates.
  • For a perio exam, say "start charting", or click a tooth. Then say the depths for each tooth, like "3 2 3". Rebrief moves on to the next tooth.
  • Say "undo" to take back a mistake. Say "finish perio" when you're done.

A small card shows what was just charted, with more phrases under You can say.

Days 2 and 3: ask on Home

Type into Home's prompt bar. It reads What should we work on next?

  • Ask a clinical question, such as a dose or a guideline. The answer shows small chips that open its sources.
  • Ask about a patient. Type @ to pick a patient or an appointment. Chips in the answer open the visit or the patient's page it came from.
  • Click the empty bar to see suggestions, such as Catch me up on a patient.

On every other page, the prompt bar sits in the top bar. Press Ctrl+K to jump to it.

Every chat is kept in Home's list. A chat about a patient is filed under that patient.

Answers are for dental knowledge only. Check the sources and use your clinical judgement.

Later in the week

  • Tasks in the rail lists the follow-ups Rebrief writes from each note when an appointment ends. Tick them off as you go.
  • + Create on the tab row adds a note on your own template, a document, a form or an aftercare summary.
  • Settings, then Memory, shows what Rebrief remembers about how you write.
  • If your clinic uses the Windows app, Prep my day gets the day's appointments ready before clinic. Find it under Routines on Home.
  • Learn turns the cited answers you read into continuing education credit.

When you need help

Help & support sits at the bottom of the rail. It opens the Help Center, and lets you report a problem or suggest an improvement.
